Disappointed
Each crisis or conflict is also an opportunity to lead.  But the president and the speaker appear to be playing for party over nation, caring more about partisan advantage suggested by internal polling data than helping American families...in this case, particularly families supported by first responders, teachers, and other government workers.

If the commonplace, if superficial (and many argue wrong-headed), analysis of Chinese characters provides any assistance here...the Chinese word for crisis is a combination of two characters:  Danger and a character that is also a character in the word Opportunity.  We all see the danger at the tip of the iceberg; we elect leaders who can show us the opportunity hidden from view.  As linguistics, this reading is suspect, but that does not change the fact that it is important for all of us to learn to see the opportunities embedded within crises as the powerful, affluent, and elite already do.
